Galapagos Islands:

galapagosThe Galápagos Islands (Official name: Archipiélago de Colón) are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator, 972 km west of continental Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.
The islands are famed for their vast number of endemic species and the studies by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle that contributed to the inception of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.
Best way to see the islands and the tremendous fauna and flora is by booking a 5-day or 8-day trip by boat. There a several options, whether with a sailing boat or a luxury motor boat. Later one normally also offer scuba diving, making an unforgettable experience by diving with sea lions or Galapagos giant turtles. Normally every boat has a guide for the “Galapagos National Park”, which guides you through the vast world of animals (among them the most famous galapagos iguana, blue footed booby, waved albatross and the giant turtle).
and plants. It is recommended to book the trip in advance from the mainland. In Quito and Guayaquil a lot of travel agencies offer these guided boat cruises.
I would book a flight from Guayaquil to the islands, because its cheaper and so you can also get around in Guayaquil. On the other hand if you fly from Quito – and the weather is fine – you will pass by plane through the street of volcanoes on the way from Quito to Guayaquil, which is amazing seeing from the air. Tame, the Ecuadorian national air carrier, depending on the season flies twice daily from Quito to the Islands (stopover in Guayaquil).
On my 6month trip through South America this trip to Galapagos was the most surprising and fascinating. Not forgetting that it was rather expensive, but every Dollar was worth spending it.
