Hong Kong-Pedro Almeida

hkg-hong-kong-advertisingIf I had to choose a favourite city in the world, it would probably come down to a couple of choices, Hong Kong being one of them. It’s definitely an unique city in the world where the mixture of Orient and Occident is eminent. Hong Kong was a British colony from the middle of the 19th century, until 1997, year when it was handed back to China. The British influence is extremely visible and most people in the street can speak English. Whenever I have to describe Hong Kong to other people I always tell them to imagine New York in the middle of the jungle.

hong kong 2It’s a modern city, full of skyscrapers, and since the city is divided in several small islands, the vegetation is quite intense. Here you will find a mixture of modern places and ancient ones. It’s quite usual to be walking down the street and to see small temples hidden in the middle of modern buildings. One of the things that will surely keep you happy is the food. If you visit make sure that you try all kinds of different dumplings, which are a Chinese culinary classic. Although Hong Kong is an all-year-round destination, the best time to visit is November and December, or  March and April, months when the temperature is high and the weather is sunny. Highlights of the city are its temples, markets, shopping malls, nightclubs, food, and make sure you visit Victoria’s peak from where you can see a spectacular panoramic view of the city.
